How ChatGPT Is WRECKING Your Creator Business
How ChatGPT Is WRECKING Your Creator Business
Excuse the bluntness (again), but after this article became one of my most-read EVER, I knew that I had to expand on how ChatGPT is legit ruining creators’ businesses… like hardcore.
I’m talking specifically about The Pitch. You know… when you write to a brand hoping/praying/dreaming they’ll respond with a “YES, WE WANT YOU” quicker than J.Lo accpeting her marriage proposals (ps: they’re quick!).
Look, let me get one thing straight from the get-go, I’m not anti-ChatGPT. You know that. In fact, I think AI can be brilliant if you know how to use it well. But most creators don’t. What I’m seeing? Thoughtless prompts. Zero editing. Copy-paste culture. And it’s costing you actual money.
And yeah, I see it when people email my agency because we’re doing influencer casting for a big brand. I see it when people email me wanting my strategy services.
So let me let you in on a little secret on what brands and agencies are actually buying into when they hire a creator: your perspective, your voice, and your ability to emotionally connect with your audience in a way that moves them to act. Afterall, wasn’t the term for Creator… “INFLUENCER”? Yes, my friends that’s influence. And when ya use ChatGPT poorly, it simply flattens all. of. it.
When a brand reads your pitch deck, and it opens with something like “In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, creators hold the power of modern storytelling”, they’re not impressed. They’re immediately thinking, “Ah, another copy-paste ChatGPT moment with no original voice. Bye girl!”
I also don’t need to remind you that it’s not just about followers anymore. The creator economy is simply oversaturated. And that oversaturation is why brands are sooooo overwhelmed with creator lookalikes. The only way you stand out is by being undeniably you. When you dilute your voice with templated content, generic captions, or hyper-polished scripts that don’t feel human, you become forgettable. Or worse, replaceable (again, BYE GIRL!).
And no, for the risk of sounding like a broken record, lemme kindly remind you that you don’t need a massive audience to land major brand deals. But you do need authenticity. And more importantly, you need originality!
Brands are investing in trust… the trust you’ve built with your audience. If your content starts sounding like it could belong to anyone, that trust starts to erode.
And the irony is that most of the creators I see doing this aren’t trying to cut corners. They’re coming from a good place. The thing is they’re just tired… burnt out, and ChatGPT feels like a lifeline. But when you start outsourcing your thinking, your storytelling, and your communication, you also start outsourcing your value.
So no, this isn’t about demonizing AI. This is about learning how to use it without losing yourself.
Use it to brainstorm angles, to expand your ideas, to organize messy thoughts….NOT to replace your messy brilliance altogether. Let it challenge your assumptions, not make them for you. You can use ChatGPT as your partner-in-crime, but if it becomes your voice… you’ve already lost the sale. TRUST ME.
The typos, the tangents, the voice notes you transcribe at midnight and think “is this too much?” that’s the stuff that resonates. That’s what your audience leans in for. That’s what makes brands say, “We need to work with them.”
Don’t let your creativity become another casualty of the algorithm or the prompt. You’ve worked too hard building your voice to hand it over to a tool that was never meant to replace it in the first place.
If this hit a little too close to home… BINGO!
I didn’t write this to scare you, I actually wrote it with the intention to empower you that your voice still matters, and your ability to build something real as a creator is still 100% within reach.
If you're ready to stop sounding like everyone else and finally step into your role as a true creative CEO, that’s exactly what I built The Creator Catalyzer for.
